He brings a wealth of expertise in: Corporate finance; business valuation and fund raising; due diligence and forensic accounting; business planning & strategy; MBO and business disposals; public offers, E-business and collaborative enterprise; strategic consulting, capital structuring, consulting for EIS, EMI, CVS, technology companies R&D tax; arbitration work, as well as international tax and audit. Mehrtash has a particular interest in knowledge capital based enterprises and the management challenges faced by them. His achievements include: designing a management course called "The Renaissance of Management" in 1990’s, working for clients at the International Tribunal in the Hague in late 1980’s, and more recently in leading the design and development of a major E-market place for professional services. His work life has enabled him to achieve a creative fusion of his professional, commercial and academic strands to become a specialist SME corporate finance adviser and consultant to growing businesses. Latterly, he has been an ardent advocate of the PLUS market for the SME’s. He is the founder and CEO of Maxim Corporate Finance LLP, and he has assembled a dynamic and highly experienced team of professionals to bring corporate finance expertise and strategic advice to the ambitious and fast growing SME’s.
Wake Smith was founded in 1802 and has a long history in Sheffield’s commercial development from Industrialisation to listing companies on Sheffield’s Stock Exchange as well as the nationalisation of its Steel and Coal industries. Latterly, with the rapidly growing sectors such as software engineering and media development in the region, Wake Smith’s client profile has changed too and it now acts for hundreds of clients in these and other sectors. Some of these clients are substantial and ambitious and potentially suit listing on the PLUS and AIM markets. David is specifically pursuing this very objective on behalf of Wake Smith through his membership of Maxim Corporate Finance LLP, in which he is a key equity partner. David’s personal expertise with over 30 years of professional experience include: acquisitions, mergers, de-mergers, banking, corporate finance, commercial contracts, joint ventures and partnerships. His wide ranging professional experience covers almost every sector, but his particular sector expertise include: healthcare, finance, media, engineering and manufacturing. He is married with two sons and he is also involved with various UK and overseas Social Firms and Charities. His interests include travel, cricket, football, cooking and enjoying other cultures.
Bhodi Sunth BA (Hons.), MIMC, AIBC
Currently, in addition to being a member of Maxim Corporate Finance LLP, Bhodi is also a director shareholder in a company that specialises in project management of companies going on to the AIM market in London. Further, he has a number of Non executive directorships and part time Until August 2006 Bhodi was a Business Advisory partner in a Top 50 Accountancy practice providing advice and support to SME’s and owner-managed companies. He headed the firm’s inward investment team and was a member of the Technology team.
Waheed has held executive management positions in global banks such as Citibank, UBS, HSBC, Islamic Investment Banking Unit and Islamic Bank of Britain spanning over two decades. He has had a diversified career for a number of years at in senior roles around the world including Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Al-Ain (UAE), Abu Dhabi and London. His banking experience spans over areas such as: operations, branch management, risk, credit, business development, relationship management, consumer banking, private banking. His achievements include the improvement of existing operational processes and procedures resulting in greater efficiency by cost controls and doubling the revenue streams in many cases. In many instances, Waheed was instrumental in turning the operations into profitable ones with on-going business strategy, which included launching investments driven towards expatriates & providing asset & wealth management solutions. He accomplished substantial portfolio growth and commended for system-wide performance among Citibank units. In 1998, he joined Islamic Investment Banking Unit (IIBU) where he became head of Islamic Investment Banking Unit of United Bank of Kuwait that focused on offering various Islamic retail and investment products covering retail, ultra high net worth individuals (UHNWI) and Institutional clients. Under his stewardship IIBU took lead in innovative offerings for Islamic mortgages, leasing fund, health-care fund, student property fund and various other liquidity management solutions; and he was also technical advisor to the Sharia’a board. At UBS Waheed was the Middle East & Asia Desk-Head for private banking before moving to HSBC in London to look after the Asian clients for private banking. In 2003, Waheed helped set up the Islamic bank of Britain where, as the lead-founder, he played a key front-end role in setting up the bank. He was heading various divisions including branches and private banking, and acted as the bank’s media spokesperson. Waheed was a key member of all the executive management committees. In 2006 he joined Qatar Consulting Company (QCC) as the MD to enable financial and non-financial Institutions, commercial organizations and UHNWI and entrepreneurs to benefit from his expertise and intellectual capital for financial solutions. Waheed’s main focus at QCC was to set up new banks and entities, investment management processes, financial strategy and policy, recapitalization through efficient structures, raising capital, diagnostic review of a bank’s processes, project finance, fund structuring & advisory as well as when appropriate Sharia’a Audit. Waheed’s other achievements include: being a founding member Bank of England working party that helped slash the double stamp duty for Islamic mortgages in the UK, a founding member of UK technical group for Islamic finance qualifications at Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments. He has co-authored a book on Islamic banking published by Euro-money. He is the founder, CEO and Chairman designate for a bank in another major European country that has now applied for a banking license. Waheed has had significant media exposure and appeared in a lot of the Print and TV media. Waheed has often been referred to as a champion in Islamic banking and he is highly reputed for his all rounded expertise in corporate finance, project finance, trade finance and consumer banking management.
Now with Ashfields (changed its name to McMillan Woods in 2010) since 2004, his focus returned to business consultancy, advising firms on new UK Operations, corporate finance, audit, tax and accounts. He is the co-founder of several financial services organisations, including Montagu Financial Services (2005), Maxim Corporate Finance LLP (2007), Paradigm Plus Corporate Finance Limited (2008), Chancery Capital Markets plc (2008) and PP Investco Limited (2009). Lutfi has an MBA from Middlesex University and a degree in International Business and Management of Companies from Pace University. Lutfi is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Accountants [FCCA], a Certified Public Accountant [CPA] in Singapore and Australia, a Member of Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management [MCIM]. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). For the past 18 years, Lutfi Talib has negotiated, executed and managed investments and projects in Singapore, Malaysia, China and Europe, and added value to portfolio investments through strategic, organisational, operational and financial leadership. Since 2007 he has focused on researching, evaluating and selecting projects in the Agriculture, Bio Fuels and Renewable Energy Sectors in London for inclusion in a Private Equity Fund which will be launched in 2010. Under the current economic climate Lutfi Talib has been approached to explore and examine the Alternative Investment Market. In June 2010 he has appointed to lead AEP Networks (a company with a strong security and encryption products for financial services, marine and defence industry) in South East Asia based in Singapore. Lutfi Talib is currently President of the Singapore Business Group and has hosted a number of events in London and has had in attendance a number of distinguished guests and speakers.
